At this point, you’ve probably heard about the “Tiny House” craze. From HGTV to mainstream media, tiny homes are gaining a lot of attention, and tiny-house communities are sprouting up across the country.
Why are tiny homes so popular? Many appreciate the simplicity of extreme downsizing. Others love the small carbon footprint (2,000 pounds of CO2 emissions each year, versus 28,000 pounds with an average sized home). One thing might surprise you though: they aren’t cheap. Because there are so many fixed costs in a home (i.e. heating systems), the price per square foot for a tiny home is actually the most expensive of any home size on the market.
